Today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day. What exactly does that mean? It means that today we recognize all persons who identify as women. It means we recognize the work and efforts women do in this world. It means that we shine the light on women and give them their props.
In this digital and rallying age. It almost shames me to have to also state what today does NOT mean. International Women’s Day does NOT mean that men don’t matter or shouldn’t be recognize. It does not mean that if you weren’t born a woman you cannot throw glitter on yourself like I saw some of my fellow ladies doing in celebration. It does NOT mean that any one culture of woman means more than another. Most importantly it does NOT mean that other issues unrelated to just women do not deserve recognition.
Today simple means that we see you women, over there being great, making changes, living life, giving life, and simply being awesome because you breathe. Just like we don’t bash International Pancake Day for not being waffles. Let us not bash International Women’s Day for not being anything or anyone else.
The recognition of one brand of life does not mean the oppression of another. Unless that is your personal intention for which you need to be checked, do NOT spew insecurities to erase the celebration of another.
