What is this self-care that everyone post about multiple times a day on Facebook? Self-care is something you do to bring balance to your day and essentially your life. It is the healthy things you do to make sure that you can still function in this hectic world. Self-care does not need an announcement, it does not need an audience. You do it when you need to, and maintain it to maintain you. The action can be as little as watching your favorite show, or as grand as taking a trip. Some of my favorite self-care actions are taking a hot bath with essential oils, listening to Prince, looking at #laughingbabies on Instagram, and playing in my hair. As an adult I have learned to schedule self-care to boost some of the everyday task. On the weekends I hang out with people I know come with the good vibes wherever they go. At least once a year I plan a trip. Nothing big but just enough to breathe different air and eat different foods from my everyday routines.

When you self-care, the world does not seem so intolerable. Self-care also allows the world to view you as tolerable too. Balance is what makes the world go round. People may say it is money and power, but even with those tools when there is no balance events go bad quickly. Too much of anything can be a bad thing, even when it is meant to be good.

Giving yourself the chance to balance out and view the world with clear eyes is your responsibility. It is adult’ing done right.
